Leading AF: On Having Hope and Amplifying the Power of Perhaps

Uncomfortable Opinion: Doing work is not the priority when you start a new leadership position.

I know you want to get in there and show your value, make positive impact, start to alleviate struggles…

But as your coach here (and IRL when you are ready to amplify the way you contribute) I want to offer another word, a word that offers hope and possibility...

See what it brings you as you keep reading.

My love, PERHAPS you were hired because of your beautiful brain and in order to use it the way you want, you need to map out a few things first.

This is where having a coach comes in super handy, and when you coach has something like my Contribution Map it's also a lot of fun!

PERHAPS you started by focusing on things like:

🔍 what could be possible?

🧱 what needs to be built to make it possible?

✖️ what do you need for it to become possible?

How would these questions change the way you showed up to work, to your meetings, to the way you were communicating?

PERHAPS it brings curiosity, space to dream and be wrong, and a presence to witness what is emerging for you and your team!

PERHAPS you are building a bridge as a new leader!

You can’t just start walking, you will fall right into the water and be taken downstream without any say in the matter!

Be where you are.

Imagine and hope for things that aren’t there yet.

Discover what you need to cultivate, where you need to grow.

Decide how to build what you need.

And perhaps, this work will give you the courage and eagerness to be brave enough to actually walk across the bridge you have built.

Most people stop at building the bridge, as if the work of a leader is to assemble and leave.

But what if you, in hope and curiosity, took the first step, walked out on the bridge first and encouraged others to join you?

Now, that is what I call leading on!
