Leading AF: On Unshakeable Faith as a Leader

I had a conversation with my first coach last Friday.

She asked me what coaching has given me over the last 6 years (I hired her when I was 5 months post partum with my first) and from out of nowhere my brain offered this thought...

I have an unshakable faith in myself. I will not give up. No matter how many times things don't work out the way I imagined, or I make a choice that is clearly coming a habitual response that doesn't serve me any more.

The direction I am heading, the call on my life, even when I see no possibility of it coming true right now, I will not give up.

Coaching has helped me reclaim my agency and power to create conditions to change what is not serving me and move me towards what the future I want! So. My leadership loves.

Whether you are learning who you are as a leader or are ready to grow as a leader, here is my Monday offer to you!

I want to start with my definition of agency, the way I understand it and use it in language...

Agency is this:

  • Understanding what you are and are not in control of

  • Seeing what you have and do not have influence over

  • Curiosity about how to shift and reframe what is currently true in order to create the future you want for yourself, your team, your org!

As you coach, it is so important for me that you see and feel the distinctions here!

It is the first step in reclaiming and reframing what is true right now so that you can map out the way you want to contribute in an impactful and effective way!

So first, lets do some journalling, shall we?

  1. As a leader, I have control over....

  2. As a leader, I do not have control over...

  3. As a leader, I have influence over...

  4. As a leader, I do not have influence over...

Based on these four answers, you can start to get curious about what you see as currently true.

What do you wish you had control over?

What would you need to shift in order to have that?

Same for influence.

What do you wish you had influence over?

What would need to shift in order to have that?

Connecting to your agency, accepting what is reality now, and being curious about what is possible in the future is how you start to build unshakable faith.

You becoming the leader you were meant to be is INEVITABLE if you don't quit!

Lead On!!!
